Hypnosis & Imagery
What is hypnosis?

In 1958, hypnosis was recognized by the American Medical Association as a legitimate, safe approach to
medical and psychological problems.  But it has been used for thousands of years in various forms, and is a
powerful tool for promoting behavioral change, healing, and wellness.  In the hypnotic state, we gain direct
access to the subconscious mind, and in so doing, bypass the conscious mind and the inner critic that makes
changing behaviors and feelings so difficult.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that is commonly experienced on a daily basis when we lose awareness
of surrounding distractions.  We all enter the hypnotic state just before we fall asleep at night, and again just
before awakening in the morning.  Other forms of hypnosis include daydreaming, becoming engrossed in a book or movie, and being
‘in the zone’ when playing sports.  While in hypnosis, your conscious mind is relaxed, and you are more open to new ideas,
suggestions, and discovery.

Many describe hypnosis as feeling peaceful, tranquil, and completely relaxed.  You will be aware of your surroundings in a detached
sort of way.

Is hypnosis the same as guided imagery?

Guided imagery is a form of hypnosis, and involves using the imagination to create sights, sounds, smells, tastes, or feelings to
create a kind of purposeful daydream.  Hypnosis is a broader category that includes using verbal suggestions and thoughts to
achieve desired outcomes.  For example, a suggestion while in the trance state that you are calm and confident qualifies as
hypnosis.  Imagining yourself as feeling calm and confident, using sights, sounds, feelings, and other senses is imagery.

Will I cluck like a chicken?

Only if you want to!  While in hypnosis, you are in complete control.  You cannot and will not ever be compelled to do or say anything in
hypnosis that is in conflict with your moral or ethical beliefs.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

You cannot get "stuck" in hypnosis any more than you could get stuck in sleep.  At any time, you will be able to emerge from the
hypnotic state on your own if you desire.

How many sessions will it take?

Most issues can be resolved in 4 to 6 sessions.
Hypnotists are not licensed by the state as alternative healing arts practitioners.
